How Branding Can Lead to a Business’s Success Or Failure

For better or worse, every business out there has a brand. I say for better or worse because you may not like what your brand is. Your brand could be confused. It could be nonexistent. It could be conflicting. Brands are more than a logo. Your brand is the core identity of your business. And if you don’t know what your core identity is, or you never took the time to map it out, then you more likely than not have a confused, conflicting or nonexistent brand. So why is this a problem? Well, because without a strong brand, you’re going to struggle needlessly trying to grow your business. You see, you may be getting clients and business, but I can guarantee you’re working a lot harder then you would be if you had a strong brand. A strong brand attracts your ideal clients to you and repels not-so-ideal ones. This is one of the ways you become a client magnet — having a strong brand then promoting that brand through a marketing system. Without this, you’re out searching for clients, rather than simply responding to clients coming to you. It’s a lot more work and a lot more stressful because you’re never sure where your next client is coming from.If you have a strong brand, that means you have a strong reputation in the marketplace. So people already know who are you and what you do. They know what problems you solve. So if they have that problem, they come to you. If one of their friends has that problem, they refer their friend to you. See how that works? Now let’s look at the flip side. You have a weak, confused, conflicting or nonexistent brand. People may have heard of you but they aren’t what it is you do. They have no idea what problem you solve, so they don’t know if they need what you sell or not. They don’t know how to refer you. And worst of all, they quickly forget your name or your business name because it has no meaning or value for them. And if you don’t figure out what your brand is and then do everything you can to continually emphasize and remind your ideal clients about it, then the marketplace is going to decide what your brand is. And you’re probably not going to like what the marketplace decides. (And yes, you need to do both — figure out what your brand is and then consistently market it. If you only do one and not the other, you’re back to the marketplace deciding what your brand is.) So how do you know what’s going on with your brand? Ask yourself these questions –1. Do YOU know what your brand is? If you don’t, then you most definitely have a branding problem.2. Do you know what your brand is but you don’t have a full pipeline of ideal clients? Then you either have not communicated your brand to your ideal clients or you’re missing the marketing piece. (Or your branding is all wrong for who you want to attract so you may need to go back to the branding drawing board.)3. Do you have a brand but you keep hearing things like: “Wow, I didn’t realize you did THIS.” Or “I thought you only did that, not this.” Then you have a brand communication and/or marketing problem OR you’ve gotten away from your brand (more on that next week).4. And of course if you hear things like” “I’m not sure what it is you do.” Or “You’re the best-kept secret” you clearly have a brand problem. Remember, it’s up to YOU to communicate and market your brand to your ideal clients, it’s not their job to remember you.

The Top 10 Branding Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make

When you’re growing your own business, every error you make means money out of your pocket, so why learn the hard – and expensive – way? Why not learn ahead of time which pitfalls to avoid? As a corporate brander and an entrepreneur for the last 25 years, I’ve seen a fair number of branding and marketing mistakes. Not only have I made a few brand blunders myself, but in my work as an executive coach and marketing trainer for other entrepreneurs, I’ve developed a list of the most common branding mistakes – as well as many great branding successes.Below are the Top 10 most costly branding mistakes that I’ve seen entrepreneurs make.1. Getting creative with your company name. Clever names may be fun to develop, but if your target market cannot tell who you are and what you stand for from your company name, customers may just pass you by. Potential clients won’t take the time to figure out your business. So, make it easy for people to “get” what you do. Would you rather spend your marketing dollars explaining the purpose of your business or let your company name do that for you? Why not spend your marketing funds to go deeper into how you can make a difference in the lives of your customers? A well-named business can simply make your job much easier.2. Forgetting that you are your brand. No matter what you sell – and whether you like it or not – as an entrepreneur, you become the masthead for your business. Everything you do represents the brand of your company. I knew a business owner who lost a multi-country contract because he arrived at a meeting with alcohol on his breath from a previous night out on the town. His potential partners were concerned he might have a drinking problem, and it was enough to break the deal. But you don’t have to do something extreme to undermine your company’s brand. Maintain a character that is in keeping with your brand, and I guarantee it will do your company – and you – good.3. Not confirming that a need for your product or service truly exists. Many small entrepreneurs put products on the market like they’re throwing darts. They say they don’t have the funds for market research, so they just wait to find out what will work in the market and what won’t. What they don’t realize is that they’re spending much more money on creating products and services that won’t sell than they would if they spent just a little bit on some focused market research. So, get creative – you don’t have to conduct fancy, expensive market research. If you’re selling a new toy, for example, go to the nearest day care center, and watch their children play with the toys. If you’re offering a new service, invite people who are in your demographic to try it out and then ask them what they think. Find out ahead of time if you have a viable product. It will save you a lot of money and time in the long run, and it will keep your brand’s image intact.4. Not making the tough choices required to really target your marketing. The bigger your target market, the bigger your business, right? Well, that isn’t necessarily true. You can’t be everything to everyone. Your brand or business won’t be truly able to reach your target market unless you can deliver a meaningful point of difference. If you’re targeting all women 18 and older, you can’t show that entire age group how your product will help them because, let’s face it, an 18-year old has different needs than a 50-year old. So, segment and separate your target markets. Get specific. Find out what will appeal to your focused target market, and advertise your product or service with that in mind.5. Not being realistic about your competition. Some businesses make the mistake of believing their product has no competition. This is never true! Even if there is no product or service that directly competes with yours, there is always something else on the market that your customers can choose to meet their needs over you. So, get to know your direct and indirect competition well, and look at them all realistically. What will differentiate your product or service from your competitors and fill your market’s needs? Then, focus your brand on those differences.6. Not being consistent in your communications. If the DNA in your hair were different from the DNA in your fingernails, you’d be a mutant. The same is true for the way you communicate your brand. Power positioning means you take your positioning and then communicate it – consistently – across everything you do. If your positioning stands for one thing, but your website or a brochure you’ve created communicates something else, your brand will mutate, and you’ll never stand for anything. Your target market can only get to understand your brand well if all of your materials are consistent with what you want your brand to stand for.7. Not choosing the right team members to reflect your brand. Because of their small company size, beginning entrepreneurs sometimes believe they should be “grateful” just to get people to work for them. Not true! Just as you represent your brand, so does every single one of your employees. Make sure the people you hire have the same character as the one you want your business to communicate in the marketplace. That means finding the best possible people to join your team, and spending a little extra to get them. The effort will pay back ten-fold.8. Forgetting that your brand image extends to your employees, not just your customers. Do you treat your staff as well as you treat your customers? If you treat your team poorly, the word will get out, and it will undermine your brand. Consistently treat your team well, and eventually the best candidates will want to work for you. Word will get out that your company is up and coming. And that’s the kind of brand image you’re aiming for.9. Not making tough choices about your brand’s offerings/benefits. Just as you can’t target your product to everyone in the marketplace, you must also make tough choices about what your brand will stand for. Don’t fall victim to “brand benefit scope creep!” Here’s an example: My first week in business, I was pretty nervous. I had left a very successful 6-figure job in a major corporation, and – as any first-time entrepreneur – I worried about being able to get enough work. I received two phone calls right away – one from one of the largest companies in Thailand, asking me to do Human Resources training; the other, from a great connection that wanted me to do some sales work. The truth is: Given my more general management background, I could have done both of these tasks, and done them well. And I loved the idea of landing two great clients in my very first week of running my own company! But I knew I had to stick to my guns. Branding and marketing were my passions – what I knew best and what I wanted to stand for. So, I picked up the phone, took a breath, and said “no” to both offers. Talk about terrifying! But, ultimately, it was the right decision. Fortunately, the phone rang the very next week with some branding and marketing engagements, and I accepted them. I’ve been able to maintain that focus successfully ever since.10. Not making your business something you love to do. As an entrepreneur, you will be eating, sleeping, and breathing your business for a long, long time. If you don’t absolutely love it, you will burn out quickly. So, don’t choose to do something just because it’s what you’ve always done. You’ll spend way too many hours of your life unhappy, and your heart won’t be in it. A few years ago, I coached a woman who was trying to create a new business brand based on her past experience rather than on her passion. When I asked her what she really loved to do, she said “work with horses.” Through our work together, she eventually realized she could combine her love of horses with the skills she had acquired in her past jobs. So, she created a training program that brought corporate executives to her ranch to learn leadership skills through working with the horses. Take her example, and find a way to live your passion. You’ll be much happier for it.Don’t be hard on yourself! Every entrepreneur makes a branding or marketing misstep now and then. If you have fallen prey to any of these mistakes, pick yourself up, and do whatever’s necessary to correct them. Then, keep these Top 10 branding errors in mind. The more you steer clear of these blunders, the faster you will build a powerhouse brand for your business and enjoy the success you deserve.

5 Tips for Personal Branding

So here we are at the end of 2010. After a failed economy things are starting to look better (if only slightly). Companies are beginning to bring back their workforce in small numbers but let’s face it, the number of out of work professionals far outweighs the number of positions available and competition is fierce. These days it takes more than a nice resume and list of impressive qualifications to get you that job. Why? Because there are 10 more right behind you with a resume every bit as impressive as yours, vying for that same position. And now with the explosion of social living online, it’s easier than ever for employers to get a feel for the type of person you are without ever having to schedule an interview or even call you. With an ever growing number of companies either recruiting through social networks or researching potential candidates through their social networks, your own personal brand has become more important than ever to set yourself apart from the competition and let your potential employer know who you are and what you stand for. Here are a few tips to get you started on building your personal brand:1. Consistency
Just like any other business out there, brand consistency is a crucial part of being memorable. By consistent I mean, use the same picture across all of your social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, etc. Just like Nike uses the same logo everywhere, the more it is seen the better it sticks. Creating your own personal logo is a nice touch as well. It can instantly provide a perception of who you are and create an interest in you.2. Start A Blog
Starting a blog with your own personal domain is good way to start your personal brand. To a potential employer a blog can show how well spoken you are. It illustrates your spelling and grammar and adds an air of professionalism. It’s also a good way to show how well versed you are on a particular topic.Check out WordPress.org for setting up a blog on your own domain. WordPress is free but you will need to pay for your domain name (about $10 a yr) and hosting (between $5-$10 a month depending on the provider). Siteground.com is a pretty reliable inexpensive hosting solution and domain name provider. They will also install WordPress free of charge and offer several themes for customizing your blog.3. Focus On What You Do Best
Your personal brand is a form of advertising and just like any other business, you need to focus on the value of your brand. An employer will be asking the question, “Why you?” Your job is not only to answer that question, but convince them “why you”. What sets you apart from the rest? Be confident but not arrogant.4. Don’t Get TOO Personal
The personal touch can go a long way in establishing trust and giving someone the feeling that they “know” you but don’t get too personal. Personal opinions and views on touchy subjects such as politics and religion should be avoided. Be personal, but stay objective and professional at all times. Keep separate personal social networking accounts if necessary.5. Network, Network, Network
When building your own brand “market saturation” is key. Social interaction in person is just as important as online. Be sure to keep business cards with you at all times. Business cards are a quick way to provide your contact information and tell a person what you do without being too pushy. Everybody knows somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody and the more people that you can meet in your target audience, the better your odds are of being found, or better yet, sought after. These are just a few tips that can help you get started building your own personal brand and is by no means an all inclusive list. Leave us a comment and let us know what methods you have used for building your personal brand and how effective it has been for you. Also let us know of anything you’ve learned NOT to do when it comes to personal branding.

Worker Shortage Might Be Excellent News For The Economy

A worker shortage might be excellent news for the economy! Maybe, just maybe, firms will awake and see workers’ substantial contribution to their success. Some CEOs take unconscionable sums and destroy their firm’s value, unlike many frontline workers who create value. During the pandemic, CEOs took vast sums as they laid-off workers. Some firms sought bankruptcy protection, but hat didn’t stop their greedy CEOs from snatching hefty bonuses.

We have a worker shortage and firms are scrambling to hire whomever is willing. Some firms, like McDonalds have paid signing bonuses. Canada’s Loblaw and its competitors paid a bonus to frontline workers when the pandemic began. They stopped it after three months in unison with their competitors. When government confronted them about this collusion, they claimed it happened independently. Go figure! It’s like you caught your three-year-old with her hand in the cookie jar and she said, Mom, “Cookie Monster did it!”

Worker Shortage Inevitable With Shoddy Treatment

Loblaw’s behavior disturbs me. During the bonus period, profits soared. Per se, that’s no problem. I favor firms making profits. To be sure, I am against government taxing profits. But paying workers the bonus during the pandemic shouldn’t hinge on profits. It was just right. Meanwhile, my wife and I shopped at a Loblaw store and workers continued their excellent service despite Loblaw’s slight.

Leaders must realize frontline workers are the firm’s foundation and treat them well, not as cogs turning out CEOs bonuses! When employers treat workers like machines, they disengage. Gallup said, over several decades, they and other researchers found a strong link between employees’ workplace engagement and the company’s overall performance. Yet employers refuse to accept this. But there is good news: surveys show some firms break the mold and treat workers with respect: Cisco, Apple, Accenture, IBM, FedEx are a few.

Next Quarter’s Earnings Drives Businesses

Companies see next quarter as the prize, so they exploit workers and fudge next quarter’s numbers. I repeat: I am against government taxing business. However, I favor the Biden Build Back Better provision to tax share buybacks that the House passed, and it is before the Senate, even if it might have only a modest effect on share buybacks. Companies shouldn’t be spending billions buying back shares while exploiting workers.

Firms should present to shareholder meetings options to use buyback funds. Choices might include effects of paying bonuses to frontline workers with buyback funds. Shareholders should hear about potential strategic investments, too. Another option is stopping buy-backs for five years after layoffs. Executives, too, shouldn’t get bonuses within five years of layoffs. We must get rid of worker exploitation that enhances CEO bonuses.

Importance of Restaurant Marketing Agency

Restaurants need to encompass considerable marketing avenues for the sake of success. Without publicity and marketing, there are chances that the restaurant may not survive in the market. But with thorough planning and enactment, the restaurant’s promotion can grab the customer’s attention just like that.

The restaurant business is quite tough. It is difficult for the owners to flourish in this thrift and with very low profits. Restaurant owners are enthusiastic about food because not much profit is left after paying all the mandatory expenses like produce, wages, upkeep, and maintenance. Better so than eternally, restaurants publicity and marketing are necessary.

Some restaurant owners thoroughly expand their profit margin by contracting their business prototype and resemblance to others, assembling a franchise, spreading their reputation, and cultivating a future passive income. While others choose to concentrate on their flagship eatery, trusting that quality over quality is vital for drumming up future business.

Smart advertising encourages the restaurant owner to create a good reputation in the market and reach customers who might not even have heard about the restaurants near them. It also promotes the restaurants with discounts, offers, special occasions, and new items to the menu.

For marketing purposes, the best way is social media. Whether people are seeking someplace to dine in safely or looking for the best takeaway service, they turn on the social media app. The more the traffic drives to your specific website or page, the more you will succeed in this business.

What the advertising brings to the restaurants

It helps to target customers, as if the customers like the taste of the food at a specific restaurant, they will start recommending that place to their colleagues and friends. Advertising helps target particular types of customers and proves to be more effective.
Advertising certainly helps to stay competitive in the business. The competitors will be advertising their specific establishment to the customers. They will assume that the establishment has lacked publicity, is less thriving, and offers less than the other competitors.
Publicity and advertisement are thoroughly an investment. If the restaurant owner is investing wisely, they will surely profit from that. But the amount to be spent on publicity depends upon the area and type of restaurant. Usually, casual and family-specific restaurants do not spend more on advertising, while fine-dining restaurants spend more because they must create a lavish image.
Publicizing can certainly help to develop crucial aspects of the restaurant’s reputation. Advertising fetches the customers by creating the business’s reputation in the community.
Hiring a marketing agency can reduce almost all of the burden regarding advertisement. A good social media marketing agency can maintain whatsoever the name’s niche and aesthetics through social media. Great brand recognition can lead to more followers, leading to more traffic to the site and a boost in orders.

Uses of Silicon Carbide Ceramics in Different Industries

1. Simplification of the power supply Network and boosting the frequency

2. Increasing the temperature and reducing losses

3. Improving efficiency and reducing the volume

As far as power conversion is concerned, components made of silicon carbide cal can help improve performance. In electric models, the active load-bearing component is the electric motor. These motors have different rotational speeds. Therefore, these motors require repeated acceleration and acceleration during the process of driving. Therefore, the working condition is more complex compared to the speed regulating system.

Transmission Systems

If you have a silicon-based device, your best choice is are switch made from silicon carbide. This is because this material has an extremely low resistance. Therefore, it is an ideal choice for applications where high frequency and temperature are involved.

The thing is that this material can reduce the loss of power by up to five hundred percent. Moreover, it is possible to reduce weight and size by over 40%. Therefore, it can help have a positive impact on the grid configuration and adjustment of energy strategy.

Solar Energy Field

If you are looking for advice that can be used in solar inverters, silicon carbide is an ideal choice. It comes with a small size, reduced costs, and much higher efficiency. Typically, the conversion efficiency of these inverters is around 96%. But if silicon carbide is used, it is possible to increase the efficiency to 97.5%. In other words, these devices can help produce power losses by 25%. Apart from this, these inverters can help boost conversion efficiency significantly.

LED Lighting

These days, the popularity of LED devices that use silicon carbide is on the rise. The thing is that these LEDs are much brighter and can reduce the cost by up to 50%. They are 200% brighter than other types of lights.

Similarly, they have 10 times more thermal conductivity. In routine life, you can apply this type of lighting for different types of environments, such as color display devices, information screens, indoor lighting, and signal lights. The thing is that they can help reduce pollution and cost.
